Literary Festivals and Awards

The Man Hong Kong International Literary Festival ran out of Paddyfield’s office until 2007. The Man Asian Literary Prize was initiated under Paddyfield’s auspices in 2006 and ran out of its offices until 2008. Chameleon Press is one of Hong Kong’s leading literary publishers.

In 2016, the Asian Review of Books initiated the Hong Kong History Book Prize, a new award for an unpublished manuscript. Sponsored by the Sir Lindsay and Lady May Ride Memorial Fund and administered by the Asian Review of Books, the Prize has the short-term objective to catalyse publication of new volumes in the Royal Asiatic Society’s series on the history of Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta, and the longer-term objective of inspiring writers to turn their attention to the region.

Opera

Peter Gordon is an advisor to “Bellissima Italia”, the Italian Consulate-General’s annual cultural festival. He is regularly called upon to translate subtitles from Italian, French and Spanish and write programme notes for Hong Kong’s leading opera companies, as well provide pre-performance opera talks and workshops for upcoming productions of Opera Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Arts Festival and Musica Viva, as well as for the Dante Alighieri Society and Le French May. He writes on opera for several Asian publications.

Drama

Peter Gordon has written three plays, produced and directed in Hong Kong by Nicole Garbellini and Aurora Theatre. The most recent, Figaro, a resetting of Le barbier de Séville by de Beaumarchais, was part of Le French May and has been taken to local schools in a one act version.
